ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth used a 25-9 third-quarter scoring spree to break open a close game as the Golden Flyers defeated Utica in women's basketball Saturday, 75-51, on Mike Daley Court at the Kidera Gymnasium.
Nazareth won for the third time in a row and second time this weekend to improve to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8. Utica, unbeaten heading into Friday's game at St. John Fisher, dropped to 12-2 overall and 3-2 in the E8.
Nazareth had four players score in double figures, led by senior
Miyah Sizer, who equaled her career high with 20 points. She nailed six three--point shots and had three steals.
Jadyn Abrams added 17 points with two three-pointers.
Kim Davis posted a double-double with 15 points and a career-high 19 rebounds and
Sabrina Wolfe had 12 points, seven rebounds and nine assists.
An evenly played first half had the score deadlocked at 29-29 at the half.
Miyah Sizer then nailed two three-pointers to open the third quarter trigger the Golden Flyers' scoring surge. Nazareth outscored Utica 15-2 over the first five minutes of the quarter to gain a 13-point advantage, 44-31. Abrams also connected from three-point range and Wolfe had a basket and two free throws.
Nazareth's lead continued to grow as two free throws by Davis and a jumper from Abrams made the score 54-38 heading into the final 10 minutes.
Nazareth continued to dominate in the fourth quarter in hitting eight more baskets, including three three-pointers.
Overall, Nazareth shot 29-for-74 (39.2%) from the field with 10 three-pointers. Sizer was 6-for-9 from three-point range and Nazareth was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
The Golden Flyers continue their Empire 8 Conference schedule on the road Tuesday at Keuka at 5:30 p.m.
