ROCHESTER, NY – After a scoreless first half, the Nazareth College Field Hockey team broke loose for a pair of second half goals and posted a 2-0 win over Oberlin College Saturday for the first Golden Flyers win of the season.
Nazareth (1-1) opened the scoring in the third quarter as sophomore Grace Wilt redirected a pass from junior Grace Wasileski for the 1-0 lead three minutes into the third quarter.
The Golden Flyers continued the offensive pressure for the remainder of the game with a 12-0 shots advantage in the final two periods.
Nazareth added to its lead in the final minutes as freshman Bella Rehermann scored on a rebound after the Oberlin goalie made a save on a hard shot by junior Bailey Selman.
For the game, Nazareth held a 20-4 shots advantage and had an 18-3 edge in shots on goal. The Golden Flyers also set up for 11 penalty corners while surrendering just seven for the contest.
Senior goalie Amanda Chuttey made three saves and earned her 11th career win and her third shutout victory.
Nazareth will face Brockport on the road Tuesday night and return home Saturday to open the Empire 8 schedule against Russell Sage.
