BROCKPORT, NY – Freshman Tessa Grover recorded a season-high 18 kills to lead a balanced attack for the Nazareth College Women's Volleyball team for a 3-2 win over Thiel before the Golden Flyers dropped a 3-0 decision to host Brockport to finish the tournament.
Nazareth downed Thiel in five sets by scores of 23-25, 25-16, 24-26, 25-10 and 15-8. The Brockport scores were 25-14, 25-13 and 25-14.
Against Thiel (0-8), Grover led three players into double-digit kills with her season-high 18. Junior Kaylee Kelly added 14 kills and senior Olivia Quick chipped in 13 kills for Nazareth (3-3). Grover filled up the stat sheet with 19 assists, nine digs and 10 blocks. Kelly added nine digs.
The balanced attack also featured senior McKenzie Hart with 28 digs, sophomore Catie Spegar had a team-high three aces and three digs while junior Eva Lyko had six kills and five blocks, freshman Ryleigh Bidwell added three blocks and sophomore Jillian Panek finished with seven digs.
In the Brockport match, Grover had five kills, five assists and three digs while Kelly added five kills and five digs, Quick had four kills and four digs, Hart had five digs and Spegar added six digs for Nazareth.
Nazareth will face #14 ranked Juniata Friday afternoon in the first match of the Nazareth Invitational, The Golden Flyers will take on SUNY Geneseo and SUNY Fredonia in the Saturday matches.
