BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Host Brockport scored nine of the game's first 11 goals to build a commanding lead on their way to a 12-5 women's lacrosse victory over the Golden Flyers Tuesday.
Brockport, ranked 16th nationally by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, improved to 3-2 overall, while Nazareth dropped to 3-4.
Lauren Caldwell scored twice for Nazareth and
Emma States,
Annie Rubel and
Eleanor Matz each scored once.
The Golden Eagles scored four times before the game was 20 minutes old. Nazareth was unable to get on the board until less than seven minutes remained in the first half. Matz scored off an assist from
Emma Robinson to break the scoring drought and Caldwell scored later in the half as Brockport led 5-2.
Brockport scored four more times in the first 10 minutes of the second half to go up 9-2, before States interrupted the string off an assist from Robinson. Rubel scored later in the half off of Robinson's third assist of the game and Caldwell added her second goal with less than three minutes remaining.
Shots were even at 28 apiece and Nazareth's Kate Lawrence was called upon to make 11 saves in goal. Brockport's Morgan Elmer had 17 saves.
Vicki Arena had four draw controls for Nazareth and Robinson had three. Nazareth was just 1-for-8 on free position attempts, while Brockport went 0-for-7.
Nazareth resumes the Empire 8 portion of its schedule Saturday at Sage at 1 p.m.
