Nazareth falls to Fisher, 17-6

Golden Flyers host Russell Sage April 10th

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting St. John Fisher scored the opening eight goals in the first 16:01 of Saturday's contest and went on to defeat Nazareth 17-6. Although the Cardinals and Golden Flyers are conference rivals, Saturday's game was played as a non-conference contest. The conference game will be played April 24th at Fisher at 1 p.m. Senior Jeremy Jacob and freshman Quinn McKercher had two goals apiece for Nazareth.

Following the loss, Nazareth drops to 1-5 overall while 15th-ranked Fisher improves to 6-3 overall with the victory.

Six different players scored for the Cardinals during their early offensive explosion. Nicholas Miller and Ian Evans had two goals during the scoring run. Junior Jon Parrinello set up McKercher's goal to put Nazareth on the board 3:58 into the second quarter. Fisher's defense and goalie Darin Eakins stymied the Golden Flyers during the rest of the half. Nazareth's defense held the Cardinals' potent offense scoreless for 11:57 before Jacob Risavi converted a man-up opportunity. Austin Jobson and Joe Post extended the Fisher lead to 11-1 at halftime with goals in the final 20 seconds of the half.

Jacob opened the scoring in the second half with an unassisted goal 4:37 into the third quarter for the Golden Flyers.Following a Fisher goal, sophomore Gavin Girardin found the back of the net for Nazareth's third goal of the game. The Cardinals tallied three consecutive goals to take a 15-3 lead at the end of three quarters.

The Golden Flyers scored back-to-back goals in the opening four minutes of the fourth quarter as McKercher and Jacob each found the back of the Fisher net. Freshman Quinn Conroy assisted on McKercher's goal while sophomore Greg Bilek assisted on Jacob's second goal of the game.

Senior David Walk started in net for the Golden Flyers and played the first quarter. He takes the loss with recording two saves and seven goals against. Sophomore Carson Pickeral played the last three quarters in Nazareth's net. Pickeral finished with eight saves and 10 goals against. Eakins played all 60 minutes in the Fisher net and earned the victory with 12 saves.

Nicholas Miller and Ian Evans led the Cardinals' offensive attack with a total of six goals and six assists. Fisher had 11 players score at least one goal for its balanced attack. The Cardinals converted on 4-5 man-up opportunities to build their lead throughout the game.

The Cardinals finished with a 47-34 advantage in total shots and had a 13-11 edge in faceoffs. The Golden Flyers finished with 43-32 advantage in ground balls.

Nazareth is in action again on Saturday, April 10th, when the Golden Flyers host Sage in an Empire 8 contest at 3 p.m.
