McKercher lifts Nazareth past Oswego, 15-6

Golden Flyers (2-5 overall) play again April 21 at Alfred

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Freshman Quinn McKercher scored a career-best seven goals and junior midfielder Jon Roth added four goals and two assists for visiting Nazareth Tuesday as the Golden Flyers recorded their second win of the season in men's lacrosse with a 15-6 victory over Oswego.

The Golden Flyers improved to 2-5 overall with the non-conference win, while Oswego dropped to 0-3.

The Golden Flyers also benefited from the face-off skills of freshman Mike Herrera, who won 20 of 23 draws and scooped up 14 ground balls. Sophomore goalie Carson Pickeral also was sharp with 10 saves in 60 minutes of action.

Nazareth never trailed in Tuesday's game as the Golden Flyers defeated the Lakers for the 20th time without a loss. Roth scored twice in the first quarter and McKercher added four more goals in the second quarter to build a commanding 10-3 advantage.

Oswego scored the first two goals of the third quarter, but McKercher and Jack McOsker scored before the period ended as Nazareth regained its seven-goal cushion.

In the fourth quarter, Jon Parrinello contributed an extra-man goal before Roth and McKercher closed out the scoring.

In addition to his fourth-period goal, Parrinello had three assists. Greg Bilek and Owen Gonzalez also had goals. Jeremy Jacob and Quinn Conroy each had two assists. Gonzalez's goal came in the second period, just nine seconds after a goal by McKercher, and expanded Nazareth's lead to 10-2.

Nazareth had advantages in shots (55-38) and ground balls (34-23) and held the Lakers without a goal in seven extra-man opportunities.

Nazareth is idle this weekend, then returns to action Wednesday for an Empire 8 Conference game at Alfred at 4 p.m.
