ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomores Clifford Pollard and Jack McOsker each had a goal and an assist in the first 20 minutes of action for the Nazareth College Men's Lacrosse team as the Golden Flyers built an early 5-1 lead but St. John Fisher battled back and scored 14 of the 17 goals in the second half to escape with a 20-9 victory Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium.
St. John Fisher (8-3 overall, 2-0 Empire 8), ranked #11 in the latest national poll, scored first but Nazareth (3-6, 2-1 E8) answered with three goals to finish the first quarter as junior Jon Parrinello, McOsker and senior Jeremy Jacob each scored to give the Golden Flyers a 3-1 lead after 15 minutes.
Parrinello scored with an assist from McOsker to start the second quarter and Pollard scored the first of two goals at the 9:48 mark of the period for the 5-1 Nazareth advantage.
The Cardinals trimmed the lead with a pair of goals before junior Jon Roth scored to regain a three-goal lead at 6-3 with 5:29 left in the first half.
St. John Fisher tied the score with three quick goals in a span of 2:30 and the teams went into the halftime intermission tied at 6-6.
Pollard regained the lead for Nazareth to start the second half but the Cardinals scored the next seven straight goals before McOsker scored his second of the game 2:12 into the fourth quarter to stop the run.
St. John Fisher finished the game with seven of the final eight goals as junior Tate Martinez scored the lone Nazareth goal in the final 12 minutes of the game.
Pollard and McOsker each had two goals and an assist and Parrinello added two goals to lead the Nazareth offense.
The Nazareth game scheduled for Monday against Russell Sage has been cancelled and the Golden Flyers are scheduled to play at Utica Wednesday to close out the regular season.
