ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Jadyn Abrams scored 15 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to lead the Nazareth College Women's Basketball team to a convincing 77-54 victory over Alfred University Tuesday in an Empire 8 game in Kidera Gymnasium.
Nazareth (7-2 overall, 6-1 Empire 8) scored 24 points in the first quarter and 25 in the second quarter to take a 49-26 lead at the halftime break.
Junior Caley Cornwell also had double figures scoring in the first half with 11 points and ended up with 13 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and three steals for Nazareth.
Sophomore Ryann Stefaniak scored 13 points and also grabbed nine rebounds while junior Miyah Sizer finished with four points, seven assists and five rebounds.
Nazareth shot 43 percent (29-for-67) from the field including a 54% clip (19-for-35) in the first half to build the early lead.
Prior to the game three seniors were honored as Elizabeth White, Isabella Gjonaj and Haley Schoelerman received recognition. Schoelerman and Gjonaj have been injured all season and White started the game and chipped in five points and seven rebounds.
The same two teams will meet again at 5:3 p.m. Monday in Alfred to close out the regular season before the start of the Empire playoffs that are set for April 6-11.
