Jadyn Abrams helped fuel the Golden Flyers' comeback as she posted a double-double with game highs in points (22) and rebounds (10). Freshman
Chelsea Woodsum added 11 points, sophomore
Ryann Stefaniak nine and Cornwell eight. The Golden Flyers trailed for most of the game and were down by as many as 12 points late in the third quarter.
Nazareth outscored Alfred 22-11 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback with Abrams nailing a three-point shot with :18 left to tie the score at 60-60. After an Alfred timeout, the Saxons turned the ball over on a five-second violation in the closing seconds. Nazareth in-bounded the ball to Abrams, who passed to
Sarah Simmons, who was able to thread a pass to Cornwell underneath the hoop for the game-winning bucket.
Alfred had quarter leads of 14-10, 29-23 and 49-40. Gillian Flint scored 18 points to lead the Saxons, whose lead grew to 49-37 on a basket by Rebecca Jewett with 1:15 left in the third. Nazareth is idle now until Empire 8 Conference playoffs tip off with first-round games next Tuesday. All five teams would qualify under the current format with the top seed receiving a first-round bye.
