ROCHESTER, NY – Utica College scored six goals including four in the third period and limited the Nazareth College Men's Hockey team to just 11 shots on goal Friday in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.
The Golden Flyers (0-8 overall, 0-8 UCHC) managed just one shot on goal in the opening period but trailed just 1-0 as Utica (4-2, 4-2) was only able to score a single goal on its seven shots.
In the second period, Nazareth had seven shots but could not find the back of the net as Utica took a 2-0 lead as starting goalie Raphael Provencher stopped 12 shots for a two period total of 18 saves.
The Pioneers started the third period with aggressive offense and took a 3-0 lead just 1:43 into the final period. Just 19 seconds later, Utica found the back of the goal again and took a 4-0 lead.
Provencher was relieved by sophomore Gage Roberts who finished the game and was credited with six saves.
Utica added to its lead with a power play goal midway through the period and made it a 6-0 game with less than three minutes to play.
The same two teams will play again Saturday at Utica with a 7 p.m. contest to complete the weekend series.
