Stefaniak carries Nazareth past Fisher, 60-57

Golden Flyers (4-2 overall) host Russell Sage Friday at 7 p.m.

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Sophomore Ryann Stefaniak scored a career-high 18 points and collected six rebounds Tuesday as visiting Nazareth gained some revenge against St. John Fisher by defeating the Cardinals in an Empire 8 women's basketball game, 60-57, at the Manning & Napier Arena.

Stefaniak's 18 points included 6-for-10 shooting from the outside with one three-point basket as Nazareth improved to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in conference action. Fisher, which defeated Nazareth 66-46 in the teams' season opener back on March 1, lost for the first time in conference play to drop to 3-1 in the E8 and 5-2 overall.

Juniors Jadyn Abrams and Kim Davis scored 13 and 12 points respectively as Nazareth secured quarter leads of 11-10, 23-21 and 43-39. The Golden Flyers never relinquished the lead in the fourth quarter, although Fisher closed to within one, 51-50, with four minutes left. Davis scored with 2:46 to play, then Abrams followed with two free throws with 1:29 left. Davis added a short jumper with :46 left as Nazareth's lead expanded to seven, 57-50.

A pair of Fisher three-pointers and a free throw in the final minute kept the score close, but Stefaniak sank one of two free throws with :17 left and Davis dropped two more with :04 to play to seal the win.

Stefaniak scored nine points in the first half, including a three-pointer in the second quarter, to enable Nazareth to take a 23-21 lead. Nazareth's third-quarter lead was bolstered by three-point baskets from Elizabeth White and Chelsea Woodsum.

Nazareth shot 40.4% from the field (21-for-52) for the game with four three-pointers. Amy Gardner was Fisher's high scorer with 18 points.

Nazareth plays again at home Friday against Russell Sage at 7 p.m.
