Emma States Scored Six as Nazareth Upends Utica at home

ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Emma States scored a career-high six goals including four in the first half as the Nazareth College Women's Lacrosse team scored a 13-9 victory over Utica College in the first home game of the season for the Golden Flyers.

Senior Callahan Lyon, Junior Emma Robinson and States each scored goals in the first five minutes of action to give Nazareth (1-1) the early lead.

Utica (0-2) came back with a pair of goals to trim the lead but States added her second and third goals of the game and freshman Eleanor Matz scored her first career goal in the run that stretched the Nazareth lead to 6-2 with 18:22 left in the opening half.

After the Pioneers scored to stop the run, States scored again and senior Tory Blazey added a goal to close out the half with the Golden Flyers leading 8-3.

Utica scored two of the first three goals in the second half and States added her fifth of the game as the Pioneers trimmed the lead to 9-5.

States, Lyon and junior Lauren Caldwell then scored three straight Nazareth goals to increase the lead to 12-5 with 10:34 left in the game.

Utica scored four of the final five goals of the game with freshman Emily Paddock netting her first college goal for Nazareth.

Junior Katie Lawrence started and played the first 52 minutes in the Nazareth goal and finished with three saves while fellow junior Emma Prosak finished the game playing the final eight minutes.

Nazareth is back in action Wednesday at home against Rochester.
