ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Ray Falso and sophomore Henry McKinney each scored goals for the Nazareth College Men's Hockey team but a three-goal spurt in the second period led to a Chatham .4-2 victory Friday night in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.
The same two teams will meet Saturday in Pittsburgh to complete the weekend series.
Nazareth (0-6, 0-6 UCHC) took a lead in the first period a as McKinney scored a power play goal off a rebound in front of the Chatham (3-2, 2-2 UCHC) goal. Junior Mitch Culver and sophomore Michael Houlihan each had assists on the play.
The Cougars answered with three second-period goals with the third coming on a power play to take a two-goal advantage into the final period.
Falso trimmed the lead to a goal just 16 seconds into the third period as freshman Johnny Jackson and McKinney had assists on the play.
The teams exchanged scoring opportunities for most of the rest of the period but it was Chatham that scored to regain the two-goal lead with 6:28 remaining.
Nazareth pressured late in the period after taking freshman goalie Raphael Provencher out for the extra attacker but could not close the gap.
Provencher finished with 32 saves and Chatham goalie Ricardo Gonzalez was also credited with 32 stops.
