Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Utica used a decisive edge in shots to score a dominant 4-1 men's hockey victory over Nazareth Friday at the Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex.
The Pioneers, ranked second nationally by USCHO.com, improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference games. Nazareth dropped its third straight to fall to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in UCHC action.
Utica had a 31-14 advantage in shots on goal, including a 15-3 edge in the opening period. Nazareth, meanwhile, had some scoring chances, including a 5-on-3 power play opportunity for 1:38 of the second period. Dante Zapata scored twice for Utica and
JT Entelisano had the lone goal for the Golden Flyers.
Zapata scored in the first period and then at 1:39 of the second for a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers added a third goal at 13:32, preceding Nazareth's two-man power play advantage. Entelisano's goal came with the teams at even strength with just five seconds remaining in the second period. He stuffed in a shot following a scramble in front of the goal for his second tally of the season.

Before the period ended, Nazareth's
Henry McKinney was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for checking from behind. Nazareth was able to kill off the long power play to open the third period, but the Golden Flyers were unable to cut into Utica's lead.
The Golden Flyers pulled goaltender
Matt Sayles in the final two minutes in favor of an extra skater, but Nazareth's
Mitch Culver drew a minor penalty in the closing seconds to put the Pioneers back on the power play. This time the Pioneers capitalized with their final goal at 19:48.
Sayles played well in goal for Nazareth in finishing with 27 saves. Sean Dickson had 13 saves for Utica.
Nazareth is home again Tuesday for a non-conference game against Fredonia at 7 p.m.
