ROCHESTER, NY – Seniors Abbey Luth and Hailey Redders scored two goals each for the second consecutive day to lead the Nazareth College Women's Hockey team to an easy 8-0 win over Wilkes University Saturday afternoon at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.
The seniors scored one goal apiece in each of the first two periods as Nazareth (6-0 overall, 4-0 UCHC) remained undefeated and recorded its fifth consecutive shutout of the season. The Golden Flyers controlled play for the second straight day and held a 61-7 edge in shots.
Redders opened the scoring 2:16 into the contest as seniors Delaney Carle and Madison Nichols had assists on the play for the early lead.
Junior Olivia Miller-Johnson made it a 2-0 game 11 minutes later as senior Nikolle VanStralen picked up the helper on the play.
Less than three minutes later, Luth stole a pass near the Nazareth blue line and puck handled past a number of players before pushing a shot past the Wilkes goalie at the other end of the ice for the 3-0 Golden Flyers lead.
Juniors Ally Watrous and Makenna Wiljanen scored goals in a span of 1:19 early in the second period to extend the Nazareth lead to 5-0. Senior Keeley Rose and Nichols assisted on the first goal while freshman Maggie Pfalzgraf and Luth earned the assists on the second goal.
Luth added her second goal of the day midway through the period with an assist from Gabriella DeMeo before Nichols and Redders capped the scoring late in the second period.
Redders and sophomore Emma Hayes had assists on the Nichols goal while Carle and freshman Ivey Lyden made the passes to set up the final goal.
Sophomore McKinley Hoff made seven saves in the Nazareth goal.
The Golden Flyers play a weekend UCHC series at Lebanon Valley next weekend before returning home December 2 to face Neumann.
