HERSHEY, Pa. -- Visiting Nazareth scored three power play goals Friday to remaining uneaten in women's hockey as the Golden Flyers downed Lebanon Valley, 5-1, in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference game.
Nazareth improved to 7-0-0 with a 5-0-0 mark in conference play. Lebanon Valley is 2-5-0 and 1-4-0. The teams play again Saturday at 2 p.m.
On Friday, the Golden Flyers scored three goals on the power play in four attempts and finished with a 41-11 advantage in shots on goal. Junior
Ally Watrous scored twice for Nazareth and
Madison Nichols added one goal and two assists.
Makenna Wiljanen and
Cristina Darby also scored for the Golden Flyers.
The game was scoreless for most of the opening period, then Nazareth took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play opportunity. Wiljanen finally got Nazareth on the board as she one-timed a pass from Nichols into the goal for a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Julie Holmes also gained an assist.
LVC was whistled for an interference penalty just as the first period expired and Nazareth took advantage again in the second period as Watrous scored her first goal of the game with assists from Nichols and
Hailey Redders.
Nazareth's second-period onslaught continued as the Golden Flyers generated 21 of their shots and four of their goals.
Watrous scored again unassisted at 7:08. Less than three minutes later, Darby scored her first goal of the season with assists from
Elie Fallieras and
Ivey Lyden.
A two-minute hooking penalty game Nazareth yet another power play chance midway through the period and Nichols scored for the fourth time this season as she knocked home a rebound after a shot from the point by
Gabriella DeMeo.
LVC scored its goal at 8:59 of the third period, snapping a Nazareth's five-game shutout streak and a scoreless run that lasted more than 340 minutes.
Adrianna Brehm made the start in goal and finished with 10 saves.
