ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Bailey Selman scored her first goal of the season and it was an overtime winner off a penalty corner as the Nazareth Field Hockey team upended Keuka 2-1 with just 22 seconds left in the first overtime period Saturday in an Empire 8 game on the Artificial Turf Field at Nazareth.
Selman, who scored 10 times as a freshman, nailed her first goal of the season on a nice penalty corner play with an assist from fellow junior Caroline Desautels. The Golden Flyers (3-4 overall, 2-1 E8) raced down the field after a failed penalty corner by Keuka (1-6, 0-3 E8) and moved into the circle to draw the penalty corner with just 30 seconds left to play in the opening overtime period.
Desautels sent a hard pass to the top of the circle and Selman tapped the ball into the circle before firing a hard shot into the lower corner of the goal to end the game.
Nazareth fell behind early in the game as Keuka scored just 4:31 into the game.
The Golden Flyers tied the score in the second quarter as freshman Bella Rehermann took a pass from Desautels near the corner of the goal and redirected the ball past the Keuka goalie for the 1-1 tie.
After an evenly played first half, Keuka came out with more energy in the second half and held a 24-1 shots advantage and a 15-0 shots on goal edge over the final two quarters of regulation play. Senior goalie Amanda Chuttey was up to the task as she turned away 15 shots in the third and fourth quarters and ended up with a career-high 26 saves in the game including six in the overtime period.
Chuttey recorded her third game with at least 20 saves as she posted her 13th career win in the Nazareth goal.
Nazareth will face Skidmore Sunday at 1 p.m. in a non-conference game at home.
