Defense Tested in Non-Conference Loss to Skidmore

ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth College Field Hockey team had its defense put to the test Sunday afternoon in a non-conference battle with Skidmore College as the Thoroughbreds came away with a 7-0 victory on the Artificial Turf Field.

Nazareth (3-5) senior goalie Amanda Chuttey made eight saves in the first 20 minutes of action to keep the game scoreless before Skidmore (6-5) finally found the back of the net with the first goal of the game.

The Thoroughbreds scored another second quarter goal to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime intermission. Skidmore had a 23-0 shots advantage in the opening half and Chuttey turned away 11 shots in the first 30 minutes.

Skidmore continued the offensive pressure in the second half and netted two more goals in the third quarter to push the lead to 4-0 as Nazareth surrendered nine shots and gave up four penalty corners in the period.

The visitors added three more goals in the final period with all three coming in a span of four minutes.

Near the end of the fourth quarter, Nazareth finally pushed the ball into the offensive zone as freshman Hannah Janes broke free in the circle for a scoring opportunity but her shot was stopped by a diving Victoria Bodnar as Skidmore maintained the shutout effort.

The Golden Flyers return to action Tuesday with a 5 p.m. home game against William Smith.
