ENGELWOOD, FL – Senior Addilys Geitner and sophomore Emma Robinson each scored three goals to lead the Nazareth College women's lacrosse team to a convincing 17-2 win over Simmons University Monday afternoon in the first game of the team's Florida trip.
Both Geitner and Robinson scored all of their goals in the first half as Nazareth built an 11-1 lead before the halftime break.
Sophomore Lauren Caldwell scored the first goal for the Golden Flyers (2-3) and finished with two goals and an assist. Geitner added the first of her three goals two minutes later and junior Callahan Lyon scored with an assist from senior Lily Aldrich before freshman Emma States scored to give Nazareth a 4-0 lead in the first nine minutes of action.
Geitner, States and Robinson added goals over the next 10 minutes to push the lead to 7-0. Geitner scored her third goal at 7:52 and Robinson and Caldwell added goals over the next two minutes to give the Golden Flyers a 10-0 lead for the running clock.
Simmons scored at 3:06 to trim the lead to nine goals but Robinson notched her third of the half with 50 seconds left in the period to regain the 10-goal advantage.
Sophomore Phoebe Barnett, junior Jordan Knapp and freshmen Kate Metzler and Annie Rubel scored for Nazareth in the first seven minutes of the second half to push the lead to 15-1. The goals for Metzler and Rubel were the first goals of their college careers.
Simmons scored with 18 minutes left before freshmen Maren Wallace and Maya Cox each scored their first college goals to cap the scoring.
Sophomore Katie Lawrence played the first half and made three saves while sophomore Emma Prosak played the final 30 minutes and was credited with five stops.
States led Nazareth with four points on two goals and two assists.
Nazareth will face Illinois Wesleyan Wednesday to finish the annual Florida trip.
