Women’s Lacrosse Wears Down Illinois Wesleyan for Win in Florida

ENGELWOOD, FL – Freshman Emma States scored four goals and handed out one assist as 11 players scored goals for the Nazareth College women's lacrosse team Wednesday night in an 18-7 victory over Illinois Wesleyan to wrap up the annual Florida trip.

Nazareth (3-3) finished the trip with a pair of wins and outscored opponents 35-9 on the trip.

Sophomore Emma Robinson added three goals and junior Callahan Lyon scored twice and also had an assist while senior Lily Aldrich had a goal and four assists.

States, Robinson and Lyon scored early goals and Robinson had a pair as Nazareth jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 4:30 of the game. Junior Tori Blazey scored to make it a 5-0 lead 30 seconds later before Illinois Wesleyan (2-5) stopped the early run with its first goal at the 23:13 mark.

The teams traded goals over the next 13 minutes as senior Emily Allen, sophomore Lauren Caldwell and States each scored for the Golden Flyers.

Aldrich started another scoring run with her goal at the 9:25 mark and States then added her third of the game before Allen and senior Addilys Geitner scored as Nazareth had a 4-2 scoring run to end the half with a 12-5 lead.

Illinois Wesleyan scored the first goal of the second half but Robinson, States, Lyon and senior Rachel Wilson each scored for Nazareth to take a 10-goal lead at 16-6 with 10:14 left to play.

The Titans answered a minute later to stop the running clock but freshman Kate Metzler and sophomore sealed the win with late goals.

Nazareth finished with a 34-15 shots advantage and forced 23 turnovers.

The Golden Flyers are off until March 24 when the Golden Flyers will host Cortland in a non-conference game at Nazareth.
