ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore Brenna Johnson, junior Elizabeth Decker and sophomore Claire Bargabos each had a pair of top-10 finishes for the women and freshman Kaleb Luton posted three top-10's as the Nazareth College men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Conference Tune-up Meet Friday night at the Golisano Training Center.
Johnson, Decker, Bargabos and junior Kelly Artini had a third place finish in the 4x400 relay for Nazareth as they finished in 4:12.77. Johnson added a sixth place finish in the 60-meter dash with her time of 8.16 seconds while Decker was seventh with a 1:04.34 in the 400 and Bargabos was sixth with a time of 2:26.57 in the 800 for Nazareth runners.
Sophomore Gabrielle Pighetti added a top-10 in the field events as she took sixth in the shot put with a toss of 11.54 meters (37' 10 ½").
Luton was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, third in the triple jump and eighth in the long jump to lead the Nazareth men. His time of 8.71 seconds in the hurdles was a mere .01 off the All-Atlantic Regional qualifying standard. He had a 13.45-meter (44' 1 ½") distance in the triple jump as well as a 6.37-meter (20' 10 ¾") effort in the long jump.
Senior Jason Hall found top-10 finishes twice as he teamed with sophomore Matthew Johnson, freshman Mike Welch and freshman Calvin Garnes for a fourth place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:32.73.
Hall added a fourth place finish in the 800 with his time of 1:59.43 which was just a second off the All-Atlantic Regional qualifying standard.
Freshman Connor McCauslin was sixth (7.35) in the 60-meter dash and the tandem of sophomore Josh Tomaka (second place) and freshman Nathan Bowers (fourth place) had strong finishes in the mile. Tomaka clocked a 4:26.59 and was just .37 out of first place while Bowers crossed the line in 4:29.51.
Junior Christopher Celecki was 10th in the 3K for Nazareth with his time of 9:16.83.
As the name of the meet indicated, the Golden Flyers will compete next at the Empire 8 Championships February 28-29 at Houghton College.
