ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth College men's and women's track and field teams placed 11th and 5th respectively and combined for 14 top-10 finishes as the Golden Flyers competed in the Conference Challenge Cup meet at the Golisano Training Center.
The meet, that features 12 teams from six different conferences including nine nationally ranked teams and the top-ranked Williams College women's team, was unique in that each conference was awarded points based on the combined scores of the their teams in the meet.
For the men, Williams won the team title with 110 points followed by Geneseo (108), Ithaca (90), St. John Fisher (87), Rochester (83), Cortland (71), Stevens (56.5), Hamilton (37), Susquehanna (23.5), Moravian (22), Nazareth 21) and Misericordia (7).
For the women, Ithaca (151) was first followed by Williams (147), Geneseo (105), Rochester (96), Nazareth (50), Misericordia (47), Stevens (32), Cortland (27), Moravian (25), Susquehanna (17), Hamilton (16) and St. John Fisher (6).
The top men's conference was SUNYAC with 179 points finishing just ahead of the Liberty League with 173 points. On the women's side, the Liberty League finished with 245 points and the NESCAC was second with 163.
Individually for Nazareth, sophomore Erin Reyner was first in the 5000-meters B-section race with a time of 18:51.11 and fellow sophomore Claire Bargabos was third in the 1000-meter race with her time of 3:18.09.
The top men's finisher for the Golden Flyers was freshman Kaleb Luton who was third in the triple jump with a 13.72 (45' ¼") effort. He was also seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (8.85 seconds) and eighth in the long jump (6.35-meters (20' 10").
Other top-10 finishers for the Golden Flyers were sophomore Brenna Johnson (sixth in the 400-meters), junior Abbey Szumloz (fifth in the 500-meter), sophomore Gabrielle Pighetti (fifth in the shot put) and sophomore Grace Blankenberg (seventh in the weight throw).
Top finishers for the men included sophomore Matthew Johnson (sixth in the 500-meters), junior Jason Hall (seventh in the mile), freshman Nathan Bowers (eighth in the 5K), freshman Connor McCauslin (eighth in the 60-meter hurdles) and freshman Bryce Florian (10th in the pole vault).
The Golden Flyers travel to Ithaca next weekend for the Bomber Invitational
