ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Janay Douglas led the Nazareth College women's volleyball team with nine kills and added five blocks as the Golden Flyers recovered from a loss in the first set to post a 3-1 victory Friday night over D'Youville in Kidera Gymnasium.
Nazareth (4-3) dropped the first set 25-22 but rebounded to win 25-18 and 25-22 in the second and third sets before holding on for a 28-26 win in the fourth set to secure the victory in the home opener.
The Golden Flyers led 23-13 in the fourth set before D'Youville (0-7) mounted a comeback and pulled ahead 25-24. The teams traded points before Nazareth took advantage of a pair of attack errors to seal the victory.
Dougles led the balanced offense with her nine kills while senior Danielle Synowski recorded eight kills and junior Jessica Barry added eight kills and 32 assists for Nazareth. Synowski added three aces and 10 digs while sophomore McKenzie Hart led the defense with 12 digs. Douglas had a hand in on five blocks as the Golden Flyers recorded 15 blocks in the match.
Nazareth returns to action next Friday in the Vassar College tournament with a neutral site match against Medaille and will play Vassar and Montclair State Saturday.
