Jennifer Hilts scored three goals and added two assists and freshman
Caroline Desautels also scored three times in her collegiate debut Friday as Nazareth opened its 2019 field hockey season in successful fashion with a 12-0 non-conference triumph over visiting Morrisville.
It marked the second straight year that the Golden Flyers blanked the Mustangs in their season opener, last year winning 5-0 at Morrisville. The Golden Flyers dominated Friday's game from start to finish as they generated 48 shots and 20 penalty corners. Neither Nazareth goalie -- sophomore
Amanda Chuttey nor freshman
Jessica Holtz -- needed to make a save.
Hilts opened the scoring just 1:53 into the game as she sprinted up the left wing and scored unassisted. Livesey followed with an unassisted goal of her own less than two minutes later and Hilts scored again later in the first quarter as Nazareth surged to a 3-0 lead.Â
Nazareth added three more goals in the second quarter with Desautels generating her first career goal off an assist from Hilts in the opening minute of the period. Junior
Natalie L'Hommedieu helped set up the next two goals off penalty corners as she gained assists on tallies by freshman
Bailey Selman and Livesey.
The lead continued to swell in the second half as Rosenberg scored in the third quarter and Dewart added goals in the third and fourth, the second coming on a penalty stroke. Desautels scored twice more in the fourth quarter and Hilts also delivered her third goal of the game.
Nazareth now has triumphed in 10 of 11 meetings with the Mustangs. Nazareth plays Ohio Wesleyan Saturday for the second year in a row. The Battling Bishops won last year's meeting in Ohio, 5-1.
