HERSHEY, Pa. -- Nazareth freshman
Jake Costa shot an 8-over-par 80 Sunday during the fourth and final round of competition at the Empire 8 Conference men's golf tournament at Hershey Country Club. Combined with Saturday's 74, Costa finished with a two-day total of 154 to lead the Golden Flyers to a fifth-place finish in the team standings.
Costa also was recognized as a first-team all-conference selection as well as the league's Rookie of the Year by placing fourth individually. The first two rounds of the championship tournament were contested last fall at Timber Banks in Baldwinsville and Costa carded scores of 78 and 72. That gave Costa a four-round total of 304.
In finishing fifth in the eight-team field, Nazareth produced a four-round stroke total of 1282. St. John Fisher captured the team title with a score of 1207. Oswego was next with 1223, followed by Stevens (1255), Utica (1259), Nazareth (1282), Potsdam (1398), Elmira (1416) and Sage (1451).

Bryce Dorough (84 for a four-round total of 337), graduate student
Jeff Gurbacki (81 for a four-round total of 332) and sophomore
Jake Adams (83 for a two-round total of 167).
