ROCHESTER, NY -- Freshman Bryce Florian set the school record in the pole vault and fellow freshman Kaleb Luton had the second best mark in school history in four different events Friday as the Nazareth College men's track and field team opened the 2019-20 season as host of the Nazareth Alumni meet in the Golisano Training Center.
The non-team scoring meet was the first-ever meet in the new facility.
Florian cleared 4.25 meters (13' 11 1/4") to break the school record by nearly two feet as he finished 7th in the final standings.
Luton was 3rd in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.64 which was just .02 off the school record and fellow freshman Connor McCauslin was 4th in the event with an 8.79. Luton went on to place 7th in the long jump with a leap of 6.45 meters (21' 2") which is second best in school history and also had a distance of 13.57 meters (44' 6 ¼") to finish 6th in the triple jump. He missed 5th place by just a half inch and had the second best triple jump in school history on his first attempt.
Luton was not done as he placed 9th in the high jump clearing a height of 1.74 meters (5' 8 ½") which was also the second best mark in school history.
Junior Jason Hall was also impressive as he placed 2nd in the mile soaring past his personal best by more than 10 seconds with a time of 4:37.47.
Freshman Mike Welch led the sprint medley relay to a 4th place finish as he teamed with sophomore Matthew Johnson, and freshmen Calvin Garnes and Nathan McNally in the relay.
Nazareth is off until after the holiday break and will compete next at RIT Tiger Invite January 18.
