ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Delaney Martin had 15 kills against Montclair State and freshman Kaylee Kelly led the Golden Flyers with 14 kills against Fredonia as the Nazareth College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Friday night on the first day of competition at the New York Regional Challenge Tournament at RIT.
Nazareth (12-16) lost a five-set match to Montclair State as the Hawks out lasted the Golden Flyers by set scores of 25-17, 17-25, 24-26, 25-20 and 16-14. Fredonia posted a four-set win by set scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-18, 25-20.
In the Montclair match, Martin had a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs while fellow senior Melissa Newcomb registered 11 kills and six aces. Junior Jessica Barry had 36 assists and 12 digs and senior Danielle Synowski added eight kills, four aces and 12 digs. Sophomore McKenzie Hart had 11 digs.
In the Fredonia match to end the night, Kelly led the offense with 14 kills but also added 13 digs and three aces. Sophomore Olivia Quick had 25 assists and three aces and freshman Kelsey Ludwig led Nazareth with 16 digs.
The Golden Flyers wrap up competition in the Regional Challenge with a 1 p.m. match against New York University and then will prepare for the Empire 8 Tournament next weekend with a Friday match against Houghton at St. John Fisher.
