SKANEATELES, NY – Hailey Redders scored midway through the second period as the Nazareth College women's hockey team knotted the game at 1-1 with SUNY Oswego and neither team was able to score again as the game ended in a draw Tuesday afternoon at Allyn Ice Arena.
Oswego (6-3-2) opened the scoring late in the first period with a power play goal on a tipped shot from the point as Natalie Giglio was credited with the goal giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead.
After being outshot in the opening period, Nazareth (10-2-1) played a more aggressive second period and eventually scored as Redders scored on a power play effort with 12 minutes left in the stanza. Nikolle Van Stralen and Keeley Rose were credited with assists on the play.
The Golden Flyers held a 13-5 shots advantage in the second period.
Both teams had scoring opportunities in the third period but Nazareth goalie Adrianna Brehm stopped all 14 attempts and the score remained 1-1 at the end of regulation.
In overtime, Nazareth had the best scoring chance off the opening faceoff as Redders grabbed the loose puck and skated past the defense and fired a low shot that was saved by the Oswego goalie.
Nazareth finished with a 35-28 shots advantage and Brehm had 27 saves.
The Golden Flyers return to United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) play over the weekend with a pair of home games against Neumann at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.
