ROCHESTER, NY – Keeley Rose and Gabriella DeMeo each scored goals and Jessica Kollberg recorded two assists as the Nazareth College women's hockey team improved to a perfect 7-0 at home with a 5-1 victory over Neumann University in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game Friday night at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.
Rose scored 39 seconds into the game as she collected a rebound from a Kollberg shot from the point and tucked the puck past the Neumann (3-11-0 overall, 2-7 UCHC) goalie for the early lead.
DeMeo gave Nazareth (11-2-1, 7-2) a 2-0 lead late in the period with a slapshot from the point. Hailey Redders earned the assist on what proved to be the eventual game-winning goal.
The Golden Flyers extended the lead in the second period as Stephanie Kubis scored with a power play tally and an assist from Madison Nichols.
Five minutes later Nikolle Van Stralen scored to make it a 4-0 game for Nazareth. DeMeo started the play with a shot from the blue line and Van Stralen redirected the puck into the back of the goal.
Neumann ended the shutout bid in the closing seconds of the second period as Jackie Schneider scored after several players tried to gain control of the puck in front of the Nazareth goal.
Rose scored her second goal of the game 48 seconds into the third period as Nazareth regained the four-goal advantage as Nichols and Kollberg picked up assists.
Nazareth dominated the shot totals with a 56-22 edge as Adrianna Brehm registered 21 saves while Neumann's Helen Cooney stopped 51 shots.
The two teams square off again at 2 p.m. Saturday to complete the weekend conference series.
