Women’s Hockey Tripped Up at Home

Box | Updated stats
ROCHESTER, NY – Less than 24 hours after beating Neumann University 5-1, the Nazareth College women's hockey team dropped a decision to the Knights by the same score as Neumann became the first team to defeat the Golden Flyers at home Saturday afternoon in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.

Neumann (4-11-0 overall, 3-6-0 UCHC) jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the first two minutes of the game.

Nazareth (11-3-1, 7-3-0) answered late in the first period as Hailey Redders stole the puck on a clearing attempt and skated in alone on the goalie and netted her 10th goal of the season to knot the score at 1-1.

Early in the second period, Neumann jumped on a pair of scoring opportunities and scored goals in a span of less than two minutes to jump ahead 3-1. The first goal was on the power play – one of just two allowed by the Golden Flyers on the afternoon – and the second came as a result of a turnover in the Nazareth defensive zone.

The Knights added to their lead early in the third period with an unassisted goal less than two minutes into the final stanza and sealed the win with an empty net goal with 3:27 left to play.

For the second consecutive night, Nazareth dominated the shot total with a 53-26 edge Saturday but Neumann goalie Helen Cooley stopped 52 shots for the win.

Noelle Gireaux started in goal for Nazareth and made 17 saves. Gireaux was charged with the loss – her first of the season – after surrendering three goals. Adrianna Brehm played the third period and made four saves.

The Golden Flyers continue UCHC play next weekend with a pair of home games against Utica College.
