ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth dropped its first two women's volleyball matches of the season Friday as the Golden Flyers lost consecutive three-set matches to Baldwin Wallace and Geneseo. Scores against Baldwin Wallace were 25-19, 27-25, 25-12. Against Geneseo, it was 27-25, 25-19, 25-18.
Nazareth is 7-2 overall and has Saturday matches against Fredonia at 1 p.m. and Keuka at 5.
Baldwin Wallace attacked more efficiently against the Golden Flyers by knocking down 38 kills against just nine hitting errors in 108 attempts with a .269 percentage. Nazareth, meanwhile, went 38-18-114 (.140).
The second set proved pivotal against the Yellow Jacket, who won twice Friday to improve to 10-1 overall. After dropping the first set, Nazareth led 24-22 in the second, but couldn't seal the deal. A service error and back to back kills by BW gave the visitors a 25-24 lead. After Nazareth tied the set again at 25, Baldwin Wallace scored the last two points before breezing through the third set.
Kelsey Milligan had seven kills for Nazareth and
Melissa Newcomb and
Madison Joseph each had six.
Jessica Barry had 25 assists and
Celia Cordero had nine digs.
Against Geneseo, the first set was one for the taking for the Golden Flyers, who led 25-24 following a kill by Newcomb late in the set. Geneseo, however, landed the last three points to take the set. The Knights went on to control sets two and three in decisive fashion. Newcomb finished with eight kills and three blocks and Barry combined 24 assists with 11 digs. Sophomore libero
