ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Any hope for a spot in the UCHC playoffs for Nazareth were crushed Friday night, as Manhattanville had its way with a 7-1 men's hockey win over Nazareth at Bill Gray's Iceplex. Manhattanville scored six unaswered goals to break a 1-1 tie to officially eliminate the Golden Flyers from post-season contention. Elmira defeated Chatham Friday to clinch the sixth and final spot.
With the loss, Nazareth falls to 9-13-2 and 6-8-1 in league play, while the Valiants improve to 12-7-5 and 9-4-2 respectively.

Manhattanville and Nazareth scored less than a minute apart in the opening period, both on shots from far out. Oscar Arfelt started the scoring 7:12 into the game, before
Oliver Janzen scored a much needed goal for the hosts 52 second later on a wrist shot from the left side. It was Janzen's eighth goal of the season, but first in 13 games.
Austin Romzek and
James McDonald picked up assists on the play.
The aggressive attack for the Valiants paid off at the midway point, as Jeff Beck lit the lamp for the first time in the 2017-18 season. The score would remain 2-1 after one period.Â
Momentum carried over into the second period for Manhattanville, as the Valiants found the net three more times within the first 10:25 to open up the game 5-1.
The Valiants, who finished the game with seven different scorers, added an even-strength goal and and a power play goal in the third period to close out the scoring.
Manhattanville had a 29-28 edge in shots with Tyler Feaver making 27 saves for the Valiants.
Michael Tilford started in goal for Nazareth and had 15 saves before giving way to
Andy Lee after Manhattanville's fourth goal. Lee made seven saves.
Nazareth will play its final game of the season Saturday, hosting King's (PA) at 4 p.m. for senior day. The Golden Flyers will honor
Oliver Janzen,
Matt Manzella,
John Power and
Ryan Walter.
