ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth closed out its 2017-18 men's hockey season Saturday in bittersweet fashion as the Golden Flyers downed King's, 6-2, at the Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex.

Junior David Powlowski scored three goals and the Golden Flyers paid tribute to their four seniors -- Oliver Janzen, Matt Manzella, John Power and Ryan Walter -- in closing out their season with a 10-13-2 overall record. King's finished 0-25 overall. The season-ending win helped offset some of the disappointment of not qualifying for post-season play for the first time in their six-year history.

"Sure we are disappointed that our season is over, but I'm proud of the way our seniors played hard right to the end," said Nazareth Coach George Roll. "They were strong leaders on and off the ice for four years and we will miss them."

Nazareth built a 3-0 lead and went on to defeat the Monarchs for the second time this season. Using a 17-5 shooting advantage in the opening period, it was just a matter of time before the Golden Flyers would find the back of the net. James McDonald was the benefactor, capitalizing on a shot right down the middle off a feed from Austin Romzek with less than three minutes to play in the period.

The second period saw three goals scored in just over a four-minute span as Nazareth took a 3-1 lead. Nazareth strung together some quick passes on the power play to score their second goal of the game. Powlowski fired a shot from the slot that deflected up into the air off the goaltender, allowing J.R. Wojciechowski to bat it out of the air for the goal 7:42 into the second. Powlowski and Oliver Janzen were credited with assists on the goal. Nazareth was at it again :31 seconds later as Powlowski fired a similar shot from the shot, this time finding the net for the 3-0 advantage as Manzella assisted.

The Monarchs were able to get on the board on the power play shortly after to bring the score to 3-1.

Nazareth's Brad Pizzey was hit with a game misconduct and a five-minute major penalty for checking from behind near the end of the second period, but the Golden Flyers were able to kill of the King's power play without any further damage.

Nazareth padded its lead in the third period with three more goals. Powlowski's second goal came at 8:57 as he finished a pass from Jacob Paluch to make the score 4-1. Manzella also gained an assist.

King's scored its second goal at 10:15, but Nazareth answered just 38 seconds later as Janzen scored for the second night in a row off a pass from McDonald. Powlowski closed out the scoring with just :07 left in the game as he netted his team-leading 12th goal of the season with Power and Janzen gaining assists.

Nazareth had a 44-22 edge in shots. Freshman Sean Kuhn went the distance in goal for Nazareth and made 20 saves.
