ROCHESTER, NY – Host Nazareth used a 21-1 run over the final 6:43 of the first half to build a 20-point halftime lead over Medaille College, as the Golden Flyers cruised to their third win of the season.
Tyler Stenglein scored a game-high 23 points (6-for-15) and added six rebounds in the 81-68 triumph.
Jake Burgio was stellar as well, notching an efficient 20 points (7-for-12) and eight boards.
The Mavericks were never able to cut the lead below double figures in the second, coming as close as 56-44 with just over six minutes to play.
Nazareth's lead remained comfortable throughout the rest of the contest. Stenglein converted a traditional 3-point play at the 9:14 mark to match Nazareth's largest margin. The senior went 10-of-12 from the charity stripe in the victory.
The Golden Flyers held a strong edge on the boards, 49-36.
Stephen Gabel and
Chris Jones were each good for seven rebounds apiece and two points.
Cody Green had seven points, while
Kevin Underwood chipped in six of his own.
Senior
Brendan Wind had three of the Golden Flyers 15 assists in the game.
The majority of the damage throughout the contest was done inside the arc as the Golden Flyers finished just 3-of-14 from long range.
Nazareth returns to the hardwood next Tuesday, traveling to Oswego for a 7:30 tip.
