KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- Senior
Carmen Sapp had 12 kills and senior
Madison Joseph combined 10 kills with 11 digs Tuesday as Nazareth held off host Keuka in four sets in women's volleyball. Scores were 25-13, 29-27, 27-29, 25-16.
Nazareth's second victory of the season over the Wolves improved the Golden Flyers' overall record to 13-3. Keuka dropped to 8-12.
The Golden Flyers hit a tidy .255 (54-17-145) over the four sets, including .458 (13-2-24) to easily take the first set. Sapp and Joseph each had four kills in the set and
Margorie Didas had three. Junior
Melissa Newcomb had four service aces.
Nazareth led for most of the second set, but Keuka stayed close and tied he set at 24-24 on a kill by Alyssa Rex (9 kills). The set was still tied at 27-27, then Nazareth prevailed on a kill by Joseph and an ace for Newcomb.
Nazareth led 27-26 in the third set, before Keuka rallied to score the final three points to force an extra set. Keuka's Kelsie Allen served up an ace for the Wolves on set point.
Nazareth carried the fourth set behind four kills from
Delaney Martin and three more for Didas, who finished with eight overall.
Setter
Jessica Barry finished with 40 assists and
Celia Cordero (11), Joseph (10),
Danielle Synowski (10) and
McKenzie Hart (10) combined for 41 of Nazareth's 64 digs.
The Golden Flyers travel to California for four matches this weekend. Nazareth plays Redlands, Pomona-Pitzer, La Verne and Whittier in matches Friday and Saturday.
