Box l Updated Stats

Oneonta, NY – Visiting Nazareth was unable to overcome a 14-point halftime deficit as Hartwick handed the Golden Flyers their first conference loss of the season, 85-69, Saturday afternoon.

The loss snaps a four-game win streak for Nazareth and moves its record to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in Empire 8 play.  Hartwick, who defeated St. John Fisher 70-66 on Friday night, improves to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in league play.

Hartwick was able to build a 14 point halftime lead, 46-32, thanks to shooting a scorching 57.1 percent from the floor (16-for-28).  The same could not be said for Nazareth as it finished the half 11-for-31 (35.5 percent).

Both sides traded the lead early in the first half.  Two free throws from Mitch Keniston at the 13:17 mark gave Nazareth its last lead at 16-14.

The hosts were aided by a strong shooting effort from behind the arc, going 7-for-12 in the half, including Corey Baker draining three of his six attempts.

After trailing by as many as 18 points in the second, Nazareth was able to chip the lead away to six points, 69-63, under the five minute mark following Tyler Stenglein (7-for-11) scoring two of his team-high 19 points.

Brendan Wind converted a layup at 1:48 to make it 75-69, however, Nazareth was held without a bucket the rest of the way.

Jake Burgio finished with a double-double after recording 15 points (7-for-10) and 10 rebounds.  Cody Green connected on 5-of-14 from long range to pour in 15 points.

Nazareth closes out its four-game road trip on Tuesday, traveling to Elmira for a 6 p.m. matchup.
