Hockey Has Win Streak Snapped By No. 5 Oswego

OSWEGO, NY – Fifth-ranked Oswego scored four first-period goals, two on the power play, to hand Nazareth a 5-1 loss Saturday night.  The loss snapped a seven-game unbeaten streak for the Golden Flyers in which they went 5-0-2.   Nazareth is now 8-6-2 overall, while Oswego moves to 11-3-1.

The Golden Flyers put themselves behind the eight ball early, giving up a power play goal to Mitch Emerson seven minutes into the period.

Oswego was able to punch in a deflating goal just :21 seconds later from Trent Durocher.

The lead was extended to 3-0 after the Lakers scored their third goal in less than a three-minute span.

Five minutes after the opening goal of the game, Oswego cashed in on its second power play goal, increasing its lead to 4-0.

Nazareth's Brad Pizzey was able to get the visitors on the board with close to five minutes remaining in the first period.  David Powlowski recorded an assist on the goal to increase his point streak to five games.  Owen Kuhns was also tabbed with an assist.  It was Pizzey's second goal of the season and first since he netted a tally against King's on December 1.

The score was 4-1 until Thomas Horn netted a goal less than two minutes into the second period.  That goal proved to be the final tally of the game.

The Lakers finished with a 31-17 edge in shots.  Nazareth was 0-4 on the power play, while Oswego went 2-3.

Michael Tilford made 26 saves between the pipes.

Nazareth returns to the ice on Tuesday, traveling to Brockport for a 5 p.m. matchup.
