Wilkes-Barre, PA – The Nazareth hockey team snapped a two-game skid as eight different scorers found the net in an 8-1 rout of King's College Friday night. Ray Falso was the leading point scorer for Nazareth with one goal to go along with two assists.
With the win, Nazareth moves to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in UCHC play, while the Monarchs, in their first season of Division III action, remain winless at 0-9 and 0-5, respectively.
Nazareth established its dominance from the start, outshooting the Monarchs 26-2 in the opening period.
Falso scored on the power play 2:21 in to give the visitors the early 1-0 advantage. Austin Romzek and Brian Miller dished out the assists.
Nearly 10 minutes later, the visitors increased their lead to 2-0 after James McDonald lit the lamp from Jacob Paluch and Connor Davis.
Sophomore Zander Pryor got in on the action with less than a minute remaining in the period, as he cashed in off a rebound in front of the net for his first goal of the season.
In the second period Nazareth had no trouble converting a two-on-none breakaway as Falso fed Miller for a 4-0 lead at the 1:55 mark.
The high-flying offense would then add two more tallies in less than two minutes to break open a 7-0 lead - Davis scored his second goal of the year, followed by senior Oliver Janzen netting his team-leading ffith.
Brad Pizzey had the final goal of the period for Nazareth, his first of the year past the midway point. King's lone goal came late in the period to make it 7-1.
Romzek scored Nazareth's final goal of the game early in the third period on the power play off assists from Janzen and Falso. Nazareth finished the game 2-for-7 on the power play.
Pryor, Mateo Capriotti, Phil Kreuser and Casey Kubara each added assists in the win.
Michael Tilford allowed one goal and made 10 saves in nearly 50 minutes of action, while freshman Sean Kuhn saw his first collegiate action to close out the contest.
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Neumann College for a 3 p.m. matchup.
