ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior captain Oliver Janzen had four points on a goal and three assists Friday and linemates Austin Romzek and Brian Miller each had a goal and two assists to power host Nazareth to its first United Collegiate Hockey Conference win of the season with a 5-1 victory over Elmira.

After falling behind early, the Golden Flyers countered with five unanswered goals, including an empty-net tally late in the third period, to take control. Nazareth improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Elmira is 2-3 and 1-2 respectively.

Elmira scored less than two minutes into the opening period as Anthony Parucci fired a shot that was initially saved by Nazareth goaltender Michael Tilford before Spencer MacLean cashed in on the rebound.

Nazareth took control midway through the period on power play goals by J.R. Wojciechowski and Ray Falso. On Wojciechowski's goal, a shot by Falso was deflected to Miller, who back-handed a pass to Wojciechowski for a blast from the point that resulted in his first goal of the season.

Later in the period, an Elmira player was ejected for an illegal hit to the head, resulting in a five-minute power play.  With one minute remaining in the penalty, Elmira took another penalty, putting Nazareth in a 5-on-3 advantage.  The Golden Flyers scored the go-ahead goal with five minutes left in the period with Austin Romzek feeding a pass from down low to Falso for his first collegiate goal.

Nazareth extended its lead to 3-1 near the midway point of the second period as Miller slapped home his second goal of the season off a pass from Janzen.

Then in the third period, Romzek scored his first goal of the season on a wrist shot to the stick side of Elmira goalie Jake Sabourin with 11 minutes left to give the Golden Flyers a 4-1 cushion. The Golden Flyers added a fifth goal with :28 left as Janzen intercepted a pass near the blue line and buried a shot into an empty net as Elmira pulled Sabourin in favor of an extra skater.

Tilford played well in goal for Nazareth by making 31 saves and keeping the the Soaring Eagles off the scoreboard over the final 58-plus minutes.

Nazareth returns to action Saturday, hosting Bryn Athyn at 4 p.m. for its Military Appreciation Game.  The money raised through ticket sales, merchandise, as well as from a silent auction will be donated to the Rochester Veterans Outreach Center.
