HOBOKEN, NJ – Nazareth faced two crucial Empire 8 matches Saturday, opening with a three set loss to Stevens (20-25, 23-25, 26-28), before rebounding with a four set win over Sage (22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-15).
Nazareth moves to 13-7 overall with the split and 4-1 in conference play.
The Golden Flyers struggled with their hitting during the match, finishing with a .090 percentage – 31 kills on 111 attempts, with 21 errors.
Stevens meanwhile was sharp all contest, hitting .343 for the match (45 kills, 11 errors, 99 attempts).
Kelsey Milligan was bright spot for Nazareth hitting .467 with eight kills on 15 attempts. She is second in the Empire 8 in hitting percentage at .326 for the season.
Melissa Newcomb and
Madison Joseph each tacked on seven kills apiece.
Savannah Bothner had 17 digs.
After a first set setback against Sage in game two, Nazareth righted the ship over the next three sets.
The closest set was the third, as the Golden Flyers rallied from down 20-19.
Newcomb started the rally with one of her game-high 14 kills. Milligan, who had 11 kills against the Gators, closed out the third set.
Joseph was also in double figures for kills (11), to go along with nine digs.
Jessica Barry dished out 40 assists.
The Golden Flyers return to action Wednesday, hosting RIT at 6 p.m.
