ROCHESTER, NY – Nazareth climbed out of a two-sets-to-none hole, before falling in the fifth and final set to Springfield College Friday night at the RIT Invitational. Springfield took the match, 20-25, 28-26, 25-21, 25-20, 9-15.
With the loss, Nazareth drops to 14-8 overall on the season, while Springfield moves to 14-5.
In the second set ,Nazareth led by as many as five points at 18-13, only to see the Pride race back to even the score at 19-19. After trading points back and forth, Springfield ended the game with three straight points to take a 2-0 lead.
The Golden Flyers responded with their best hitting set in the third, notching 14 kills on 34 attempts with just four errors (.294). Naz had a similar outing in the fourth to help even the score, with 13 kills on 35 attempts and three errors (.286).
Springfield scored the first three points of the final set and never looked back.
Kelsey Milligan put together a strong outing with 14 kills (.393), three service aces and four blocks.
Melissa Newcomb (.278) and
Madison Joseph (.344) each put down 15 kills. Joseph also had 11 digs.
Savannah Bothner led the way with 19 digs and five service aces, while
Jessica Barry had 44 assists.
Danielle Synowski chipped in 10 digs.
The Golden Flyers return to action on Saturday, with matches against Brockport and Geneseo.
