Updated StatsELMIRA, NY – The Nazareth offense found its rhythm in the third period, scoring three goals to earn a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over host Elmira in ECAC West play on Friday night.
With the win, Nazareth moves to 7-10-4 overall and 4-6-1 in conference play, while Elmira falls to 9-9-2 and 2-7-1, respectively.
Nazareth trailed 2-1 heading into the final frame. After struggling to get pucks to the net in the first two periods with a combined shot total of 15, Nazareth's offense came alive with 13 shots in the third.
David Powlowski evened up the score at 2-2 early in the third.
Brad Pizzey and
Marcus Moles were credited with the assists.
Nazareth's offensive firepower kept rolling midway through the period as
Oliver Janzen lit the lamp in what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
Dominik Gabaj and
Justin LaCorte set up the score for the Golden Flyers.
Pizzey added an insurance goal in the waning seconds to seal the victory.
Elmira notched the first goal of the game midway through the first period at the hands of Jarryd ten Vaanholt.
Five minutes later, the Soaring Eagles doubled up Nazareth with a goal from Tommy Sumi. The score remained 2-0 after the first period of play.
The Nazareth offense stuck with it and eventually broke through on the power play at the 7:55 mark of the second period.
Scott Andler tallied his fifth goal of the season off an assist from a
J.R. Wojciechowski.
Ed Zdolshek finished with 37 saves in net to earn the win.
Nazareth and Elmira will be back in action on Saturday with a 7 p.m. start time.
