ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth completed a weekend sweep of Empire 8 Conference women's soccer foes Sunday as a first-half goal by Julia Delgatti held up for a 1-0 victory over Hartwick at Golden Flyer Stadium.

The Golden Flyers also blanked Elmira, 4-0, Saturday and now stand at 9-2-2 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8. Hartwick, which played to a 1-1 tie at St. John Fisher Saturday, is now 6-4-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference games.

Nazareth has now won five straight, including the last four by shutout. It was the ninth shutout overall for the Golden Flyers, whose defense-first philosophy has yielded just five goals this season. Nazareth's current shutout streak stands at 370 minutes. Sunday's starting defenders included juniors Kate Billington, Sarah Conroy, Erin Strollo and Kelsey Moss.

That streak was seriously tested by Hartwick in the first half Sunday as the Hawks had a flurry of scoring chances early on. Nazareth keeper Allison Dobles finished with four saves, including a stop of Hartwick's Sierra Bentley, who had a point-blank attempt in the 14th minute.

Nazareth's Laura Herman had a good chance in the 19th minute, but her shot from the left wing was tipped over crossbar by Hartwick keeper Megan McGillycuddy, who made seven saves.

Nazareth finally broke through for the game's lone goal in the 22nd minute as Delgatti netted her team-best ninth goal of the season after redirecting a through pass from senior Michaela Soules, who now has a team-high six assists.

Much of the final 45 minutes was played between the penalty boxes as Nazareth generated five shots and Hartwick four. Nazareth had a 15-10 edge overfall and a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Nazareth is off until Saturday when the Golden Flyers visit Ithaca for an E8 Conference game at 12 p.m.
