Updated StatsROCHESTER, NY – Nazareth erupted for four third period goals to earn a come-from-behind 6-3 victory over Manhattanville College Friday night in a pivotal ECAC West contest. Freshman
J.R. Wojciechowski notched a career-high two goals and one assist in the win.
Nazareth improves to 6-9-4 overall with the win and 3-5-1 in the ECAC West play, while Manhattanville drops to 9-8-1 and 5-3, respectively.
Trailing 3-2 heading into the third period, Nazareth's offense scored three goals in the first 6:17 to claim the lead.
Dominik Gabaj set up the opening goal with a pinpoint pass from behind net to
Oliver Janzen in front for the tally less than two minutes in.
The offensive onslaught continued at 4:30 with Wojciechowski netting his second of the game off a rebound.
C.J. Murray eluded the defense up the middle, ripping a shot off the post, allowing Wojciechowski to fire home the rebound.
Less than two minutes later, Nazareth was at it again, with a goal coming at the hands of
Justin LaCorte. Assists were credited to Wojciechowski and
John Power.
The final goal of the game came from
Austin Romzek at 17:14 with assists from Murray and
Scott Dawson.
In the opening period,
Matt Manzella picked an excellent time to score his first-career goal. Less than three minutes in Manzella ripped a shot just inside the blue line and caught the Valiants goalie off guard.
Scott Andler picked up his fourth assist of the year.
The visitors were able to even the score at 1-1 at the 16:19 mark as Casper Dyrssen backhanded a loose puck past
Ed Zdolshek.
Nazareth took a penalty late in the period and the Valiants took advantage of their opportunity, scoring with just :12 seconds remaining to go up 2-1.
Manhattanville kept the momentum going early in the second period, scoring less than four minutes in to up its lead to 3-1.
The Golden Flyers controlled the period, however, finally breaking through again at 17:13 to close to within 3-2. Wojciechowski ripped a shot from the point past the Valiants goaltender. Assists were credited to
Rocky Gruttadauria and
Brad Pizzey. Nazareth held a 14-7 shot advantage in the period.
Zdolshek made 29 saves in net for Nazareth.
The Golden Flyers will square off with Manhattanville on Saturday at home for a 4 p.m. contest.
