Sippie leads Nazareth at NYSCTC Meet

Sippie won the 400-meter dash and anchored the 1600-meter relay

CANTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth senior Hannah Brackley was named Track Athlete of the Meet Saturday as she led the Golden Flyers to a fifth-place finish at the NYSCTC Track and Field Championships at St. Lawrence University. Nazareth also finished in eighth place in the men's two-day meet as the Golden Flyers won three individual events as well as one relay.

In the women's meet, Nazareth finished with 75 team points to finish behind only Ithaca (211), St. Lawrence (141), RIT (118.5) and Rochester (92.5). In the men's meet, Nazareth finished with 61 team points. Rochester won with 134, followed by Ithaca with 112.

Brackley broke two of her own school records in the 400- and 200-meter dashes respectively. She won the 400 in :56.09 and finished second in the 200 with a time of :25.42. She also anchored Nazareth's winning 1600-meter relay that posted a time of 3:53.49 and also included senior Michaela Gildemeyer and freshmen Samantha Goble and Andrea Larnard.

Gildemeyer and Goble also went 2-3 in the 800-meter run. Gildemeyer posted a time of 2:15.62 and Goble was close behind with a personal-best of 2:17.65. Junior Gabrielle LeBihan placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:29.98. She was followed by freshman Kimmy Lovett in eighth place (11:40.34). Freshman Emily Soeder was third in the high jump as she cleared 1.54 meters.

The Golden Flyers also ran fifth in the 400-meter relay (:49.33) with Sibongile Chisi, Taylor Pierson, Amanda Entress and Brackley.

In the men's meet, Nazareth got first-place finishes from junior Tom Sippie in the 400-meter dash and sophomore Matt Battaglia in the 800-meter run (1:53.92) in addition to Luis Rivera's win in the hammer throw on Friday. The Golden Flyers also placed first in the 1600-meter relay, anchored by Sippie, and posted a winning time of 3:18.42. Freshman Nick LaBarbera, junior Jacob Murray and Battaglia also ran.

LaBarbera was named co-Rookie of the Meet after finishing second in the 400-meter dash, just a couple of ticks behind Sippie, with a time of :48.72. Other top performers included freshman Kevin Witt, who was fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:47.44; junior Brandon Vuolo, who was sixth in the discus with a distance of 39.51 meters; and junior Khiary Gayle, who was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.50 meters.
