Tournament SiteCHILI, N.Y. - Nazareth erased a seven point deficit over the final three minutes before Hobart's Luke Ruddy converted two free throws on the final possession to propel the Statesman to a 75-73 victory in a consolation contest of the Wendy's College Classic Friday night. The game was held at Roberts Wesleyan College.
Tyler Stenglein and
Brendan Wind scored all seven points on the late run for Nazareth, however Hobart took advantage of having the final possession, picking up a foul underneath the basket with just :01 second remaining.
The Golden Flyers have now lost four straight contests (3-4) by a combined total of just nine points. Hobart improves to 4-2 with the win.
Each team traded lop-sided scoring runs in the first half. Following a
Mitch Ford jumper at the midway point to cut the Statesman lead to 15-11, Hobart opened up a 25-11 advantage over a three minute span.
Nazareth mustered a run of its own, sparked by a 3-pointer from
Nick Nadeau. Wind put in a layup at the 3:48 mark to cut the deficit to 28-26.
Hobart led 33-31 at the half.
Chris Jones gave Nazareth a lead in the second, its first since the 14:12 point of the first half, with a layup to make it 48-47 with 12 minutes remaining.
Ford registered his sixth double-double of the season with 20 points (6-for-14) and 12 boards.
Wind scored a career-high 16 points (8-for-13) and dished out three assists. Stenglein (14 points) and
Josh Gillard (11 points) were also in double digits.
Nazareth will square off against top-seeded St. John Fisher in the 7
th place game on Saturday. The game is set to tipoff at 1 p.m. on the campus of St. John Fisher College.
