Updated StatsGENESEO, NY - The Nazareth College hockey squad scored the first three goals of the game before surrendering five unanswered, falling 5-3 to host Geneseo on Friday night. The Knights are ranked 10
th in the country.
With the loss, Nazareth falls to 2-4-4, while Geneseo improves to 8-1-2.
Nazareth held a 2-0 lead after the first period.
Oliver Janzen got the Golden Flyers on the board first near the midway point off an assist from
Dominik Gabaj and
John Power.
Three minutes later
Rocky Gruttadauria gave Nazareth a two goal advantage.
Scott Andler and
Mike Miller picked up assists on the play.
In the second period, Janzen lit the lamp for the second time with the same connection from Gabaj and Power.
The Knights, however, took advantage of their extra man opportunities in the second period erupting for three goals to even the score at 3-3 heading to the final frame.
Geneseo scored their first tally at 9:45 and followed it up with back-to-back tallies from Trevor Hills late in the period.
The home squad scored just :36 seconds into the third period and added an insurance goal with 1:04 remaining to seal the victory.
Ed Zdolshek made 35 saves in net for Nazareth.
Nazareth returns to action at 4 p.m. on Saturday when it will host Adrian College.
