Updated StatsROCHESTER, NY – No. 2 ranked Adrian College scored twice on 41 shots, for a 2-1 victory over host Nazareth College Saturday night. The Bulldogs came into the contest averaging 5.4 goals per game.
With the loss, Nazareth falls to 2-5-4 overall while Adrian improves to 8-1-1.
The visitors found an early goal in the first period as Pat George scored 3:31 into the contest.
A physical tone was set from the get-go and each team was charged with four penalties in the opening period. Neither team scored on the power play however, and the Golden Flyer killed off a 5-on-3 penalty for :40 seconds.
For the game, Nazareth was 0-7 on the power play, while Adrian was 0-8.
Adrian outshot Nazareth 18-3 in the period.
Geoff Bagnall nearly put Nazareth on the scoreboard early in the second period as his shot hit the post.
The Golden Flyers eventually broke through at the midway point, as
Oliver Janzen threaded a long pass ahead to
Dominik Gabaj, who went backhand to forehand past the Adrian goaltender to tie the game at 1. Bagnall also earned an assist on the goal.
After registering 18 shots in the opening frame, Adrian recorded just six in the second period, however, one made it into the net after a second-chance rebound attempt at the 18:07 mark.
A total of 30 shots were taken in the final period, 17 for Adrian and 13 for Nazareth, but no team found the back of the net.
Ed Zdolshek finished with 39 saves in net for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth returns to the ice on January 1 when it will square off against Colby College at 4 p.m. in the Plattsburgh Tournament.
