Hockey Rallies For A Tie Against Utica

Box l Updated Stats

ROCHESTER, N.Y - The Nazareth College hockey squad scored two third period goals to rally for a 2-2 tie with visiting Utica Saturday night at the Bill Gray's Ice Plex. J.R. Wojciechowski and David Powlowski each scored their first collegiate goals for the Golden Flyers.

Nazareth moves to 0-1-2 on the year and 0-1-1 in ECAC West play, while Utica improves to 2-0-1 and 1-0-1, respectively.

Neither squad could find the back of the net in the opening period. The Golden Flyers outshot the Pioneers 8-7.

Utica took advantage of a power play in the second period to take a 1-0 advantage. Mikhail Bushinski tallied the power play goal past the midway point with assists credited to Alex Brissette and Anthony McVeigh.

Trailing 1-0 in the third period, Wojciechowski netted a goal from the point off an assist from Brad Pizzey.

Utica didn't take long to answer, however, with Alex Roberts notching a tally to make a 2-1 in favor of the Pioneers.

Nazareth was unable to convert on a 51-second 5-on-3 power play advantage midway through the third period, but the Golden Flyers kept up the offensive pressure and finally broke through with 5:20 left in regulation as Powlowski jammed a goal on the backside to even the score at 2-2.

The squads played to a scoreless overtime period, each generating one shot.

Ed Zdolshek registered 22 saves in net for Nazareth.

Nazareth returns to action next weekend, hosting Hobart College on Friday and Elmira College on Saturday, with each slated for a 7 p.m. start time.
