Updated statsROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Nazareth College hockey team fell 4-1 to Utica College in its home-opener Friday night at the Bill Gray's Ice Complex. It was also each squads first ECAC West outing of the season.
Nazareth moves to 0-1-1 on the year and 0-1-0 in conference play, while Utica improves to 2-0-0 and 1-0-0, respectively.
Utica gained a two-goal advantage after the first period, scoring both goals with less than four minutes remaining.
Alex Brissette made good on a shot off an assist from Hayden Dawes to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Shortly after, Utica took advantage of an opportunity with a Nazareth defender losing his stick. Nick Miglio made it 2-0 heading into the second period.
In the second period, the Pioneers were able to increase their lead to 3-0 at the 11:21 mark.
Nazareth, however, responded with its first goal of the game with three minutes remaining in the period to slice the lead to 3-1.
Scott Dawson ripped a shot from the point, and
C.J. Murray put home the deflection past the Utica goaltender.
Utica scored the final goal of the game near the midway point on a breakaway.
Ed Zdolshek made 21 saves in net for the Golden Flyers.

James Redman each registered two shot.
Nazareth and Utica will return to action tomorrow night at the Bill's Gray Ice Complex, with the puck drop set for 7 p.m.
